Grand Island Snow Emergency Declaration

Based on the official Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service, the City of Grand Island has declared that a Snow Alert/Emergency will take effect at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11 and will remain in effect until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12. During a Snow Alert/Emergency, no vehicles may be parked on the city’s snow emergency routes. The routes can be identified by the red, white and blue snow emergency signs posted every few blocks on these streets. A map of snow emergency routes is available at the City of Grand Island website at www.grand-island.com/snowemergencyroutes. The Grand Island Police Department will begin checking the city’s snow emergency routes when the emergency takes effect and will continue checking for illegally parked vehicles until the emergency expires. Parked and/or abandoned vehicles on emergency routes are subject to being towed away. Motorists are strongly encouraged to limit traveling until the inclement weather subsides and the streets are cleared. Residents are reminded that snowplows may throw snow onto curb sidewalks and driveways. The Street Department formally advises residents not to shovel curb sidewalks or driveways until the streets have been cleared of snow. The City of Grand Island appreciates your patience and cooperation while working to return public streets to a safe means of transportation.
