Walk Off Winner/Kearney Downs GI Home Federal In 14 Innings
(Kearney, NE) - An all-time classic on Tuesday night at Kearney's Memorial Field as Kearney Misko Sports defeated Grand Island Home Federal by a final score of 3-2. Kearney would score first in the bottom of the first inning and tack on another run to lead 2-0 in the fourth inning. Home Federal would claw back into the game with two runs to tie the game at two all in the top of the sixth inning.
Starting pitcher for Grand Island Dyllan Hinrichs would toss seven strong innings giving up four hits and two runs to go with 10 strikeouts on 105 pitches. Gabe Ruiz came in for four extra innings of relief. GI would find themselves in danger every inning past the 7th and in the end, find a way to escape jam after jam as Kearney threatened to win the game. Home Federal after Ruiz on the hill would get two and two-thirds from Zachary Mader. Kearney would come through in the end with a bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the 14th from Kole Throckmorton to win the game.
Kearney with the win is now 8-8. With the loss, GI snaps an eight-game winning streak as they see their record go to 15-3. Home Federal will be back in action on June 19th through June 23rd participating in the Creighton Prep Tournament in Omaha.
The next action on KRGI 1430/105.5 will be on Tuesday, June 25th as Grand Island visits Hastings Five Points Bank at 7:30 pm.
