UNL Fulbright Scholar TO Present Tajikistan Cultural Program
Grand Island, Neb. — UNL Grad Student and current Fulbright Scholar Parviz Jamalov is calling Grand Island home for a summer internship with the City of Grand Island’s communications department, and he’s ready to share some of his worldly experience.
Please join us at the Grand Island Public Library on Tuesday, June 25 from 6-7 p.m. for a special cultural adult program. Jamalov will present “The Land of Mountains & Legends: Discovering the Hidden Wonders of Tajikistan.”
Join him for this enchanting talk that unveils the rich tapestry of Tajikistan, a landlocked country in Central Asia. Once a vital part of the historic Silk Road, Tajikistan boasts more than just stunning landscape. Experience the culture, history and natural beauty of a country where every whisper, river and peak tells a unique story.
Jamalov comes to Grand Island an already-experienced communication specialist, passionate storyteller and educator with 14 years of experience in public speaking and knowledge-sharing. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Russian-Tajik Slavonic University in 2013, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism.
In 2009 as a senior in high school, Jamalov won the Gold Medal in the National Russian Language Olympiad, showcasing proficiency and excellence in language skills at a national level. Professionally, he has worked as the Press & Public Affairs Officer and Projects Manager at the British Embassy in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) over the past six years. As part of his job, he planned and executed numerous highly effective awareness campaigns and projects including U.K. Government’s flagship Chevening Scholarship Program and the BBC’s Green Planet Climate Awareness Campaign.
As a community leader, Jamalov organized the first independent TED Talk event in the history of Tajikistan in 2012, bringing together the nation’s brightest minds on one stage. He’s also been the recipient of the Youth Ambassador for Peace Award by the Universal Peace Federation for outstanding efforts to empower the youth of Tajikistan.
In total, Jamalov has delivered 295 talks, presentations, seminars and workshops on diverse topics and has acted as an MC or a moderator at big events in Tajikistan including G5 Startup Forum, Go Viral Central Asia, Startup Choihona, PEAK Demo Days, UN Youth Day, U.S. Alumni Network Alumni Conferences, BBC Green Planet Screening events and more.
