September Traffic Fatality Toll

Oct. 15, 2024 (Lincoln, Neb.) — During the month of September 2024, twenty-seven people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

¨      These 27 fatalities occurred in 21 fatal crashes.

¨      Ten of the twenty-one vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, four were using a seatbelt, and seven had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.

¨      Fifteen of the fatalities were in rural locations*.

¨      There were three fatalities on the interstate, eighteen on other highways, and six on local roads.

¨      Six of the fatalities were motorcyclists.

¨      Two of the fatalities were driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).

There were 21 fatalities in September of 2023.
Only 40 of the 143 vehicle occupants killed during 2024 were using seatbelts.
