Northwest Softball Wins On Senior Night


(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest Viking softball team moved to 15-0 on Monday night defeating North Platte by a final score of 10-2 in 6 innings. The Vikings would trail 1-0 after the top of the first inning as Bulldog Jaycee Lehr hit a solo home for North Platte. The Vikings would answer at the bottom of the frame as they would get a 2 RBI single from Becca Dinkelman to make it 2-1 Northwest.

After a scoreless second North Platte would tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third but then Northwest would answer right back with a run in the bottom of the third as Kyra Ray would launch her first home run of the season to give Northwest the lead 3-2. Ray is the 7th Viking this season to hit a home run which Northwest has 24 on the season. Ray on the night would finish with 3 Hits, 2 RBI, a walk, and 3 stolen bases. 

The game would see a scoreless 4th inning. The Vikings clinging to a one-run lead going into the bottom of the 5th would score five runs to make it an 8-2 lead. Northwest would get an RBI single by Ray, a two-RBI single from Dinkelman, followed by two more runs scoring on a two-out fielding error by the Bulldogs. 

The Vikings would close out the game in the bottom of the 6th as Ryese Zobel and Becca Dinkelman would each have an RBI single to make the final score 10-2.

Pitcher Gracyln Simmons would earn the victory to move to 11-0 on the season. She gave up two runs on two hits in the game. Simmons would have three walks and nine total strikeouts on 88 pitches.
