Northwest Softball Defeats GICC
(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest Vikings would defeat the GICC Crusaders on Thursday night by a final score of 10-0 in four innings. Northwest would get on the board first in the bottom of the first as Ryese Zobel would hit her 100th career home run bringing in three runs. The Vikings would add one more run to make it 4-0 as Lilly Martinez was hit by a pitch to advance to first base that would then bring in a runner from third as the bases were loaded for Northwest.
Northwest would add five more runs in the bottom of the second inning and then add one more run in the bottom of the fourth from Lilly Martinez on an RBI single. GICC would struggle at the plate vs Northwest starting pitcher Graclyn Simmons. GICC would get a lead-off single looped over Northwest first basemen Laiken Dorsey by Crusader shortstop Anna Tibbetts in the top of the first. That would be the only hit of the night for GICC. The only Crusader baserunner in the game came in the top of the fourth inning after Logan Rainforth drew a walk. Simmons would strike out 7 GICC batters in the game on 55 pitches giving up just one run in her three innings of work. Libby Loman came into the game to pitch the fourth inning tossing 14 pitches with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
GICC with the loss is now 9-7 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday, September 14th traveling to Hastings to play in the St Cecilia Invite. Northwest is now 14-0 on the season and will have the weekend off and return to action Monday, September 16th hosting North Platte. Listen live on Monday on 103.1 FM.
