Northwest Basketball Splits With York Saturday


(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest basketball teams would be at home on Friday & Saturday taking on Central Conference opponents. On Friday the Northwest girls would defeat Columbus Lakeview 65-32. Laiken Dorsey would lead the Vikings with 19 points, Reagan McIntyre would have 10 points, and Jolie O'Hara would have 8 points.

Northwest on Saturday would fall to York by a final score of 46-37. The Vikings would have a 26-18 lead at halftime but second-half turnovers that led to points would doom Northwest with York coming back late in the third quarter to take the lead for the first time in the game 32-31 with :45 seconds left. York would then go on to outscore Northwest 14-6 in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Leaders Saturday for the Vikings included Jolie O'Hara 11 points, Reagan McIntyre with 8 points, and Daveigha Heikes with 6 points. 

The Northwest boys would snag two wins, first on Friday downing Lakeview by a final score of 67-57. Northwest would be led by Cam Walker with a season-high 24 points. Dawson Urbanski would have 14 points for the Vikings along with 7 points a piece from Sam Dinkelman and Luke Jensen. The Viking's night would see eight three-pointers fall in the game. 

On Saturday, the Vikings defeated York by a final score of 55-41. The Vikings sank 11 three-pointers in the contest. The Vikings led at the halftime break 28-17. York cut the deficit down to five at the end of the third quarter, 40-35. The Vikings outscored York in the final quarter 15-6 to claim the victory. Northwest was led by Jaden Brandt with 22 points. Brandt would have six three-pointers in the game. Sam Dinkelman had 11 points, and Dawson Urbanski had 14 points. 

Both Viking teams are now 7-4 on the season and back in action on Tuesday, January 14th at Hastings St Cecilia. Friday, Jan. 17th Northwest is at Adams Central, listen live on 103.1 FM & 2dayfm1031.com.
