Hastings To Host Special Olympics Worlds Largest Truck Convoy
The Special Olympics “World’s Largest Truck Convoy” is being held Saturday, Sept. 21st in Hastings. Semi- Trucks will begin arriving the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 20th at the Adams County Fairgrounds. There will be a kickball game, food, and music starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday for all participants of the Convoy and is open to the public. On Saturday morning, at 9:00 a.m., the opening ceremony for the Convoy will take place followed by the participants and drivers getting into position. Promptly at 10 a.m., the first semi-truck will roll out and others will follow. The Convoy will travel south on Highway 281 from the Fairgrounds to Highway 74, Highway 74 east to South Showboat Boulevard, South Showboat Boulevard north to East J Street, and East J Street West to the original intersection of J Street and South Baltimore Avenue. At this intersection, the Convoy will turn North to the Fairgrounds and park. At the conclusion of the Convoy, participants, family, and the public are invited to remain for lunch and an awards ceremony.
This is a new route from the past years and will allow spectators and family to safely view the Convoy from several parking lots along J Street during the final leg.
