Jamestown, ND – The Hastings College men’s basketball team picked up its first win against the Jimmies of Jamestown since Jan. 4 of 2020 with its 92-76 win on Friday night inside the Harold Newman Arena. This win marks win No. 600 for Head Coach Todd Raridon in his career.

It would be the Broncos that would get off to the fast start as the Broncos worked the ball into Danilo Matovic on back-to-back possessions to see if they could get the big man going with four early points. Then Tyrique McMurrin picked up and offensive rebound and got the put back to go as HC had a quick 6-0 lead as the Jimmies called a timeout.

This didn’t slow the Broncos down as they eventually opened up a 15-2 lead as McMurrin hit a jumper followed by an Anthony Thompson three to make it 11-2. McMurrin then got another one to go followed by a bucket from Grady Corrigan as Hastings came racing out of the gates with the early 13 point lead.

Hastings would build the lead even larger later in the first half as Reggie Thomas got going with a layup and then McMurrin stayed hot with a three as Hastings held a 30-14 lead with 9:25 go to in the first half.

The lead grew to as much as 19 before Jamestown chipped away to trail by 10 at halftime.

After halftime, Jamestown was only able to get to with six one time as the Broncos picked up Great Plains Athletic Conference win number one.

McMurrin and Matovic each scored a career high 23 points in the win. McMurrin was 10-for-14 from the floor and 2-for-4 from behind the arc while Matovic was 10-for-15 from the floor and made his only three of the game. McMurrin finished with his first career double-double as he also pulled down 10 boards. Matovic finished with six rebounds.
