Crossroads Mission Avenue would like to invite the public to the Grand Opening of the Grand Island Mission Avenue Thrift Store on January 10, 2022 from 9am till 5pm, as they present their new Thrift Store to the Grand Island community.  This addition to the retail shops in Grand Island will supply a local option for purchasing low cost clothing and household goods, as well as an opportunity for Hall County residents to recycle their unneeded items by donating to the Thrift Store.  All proceeds support the efforts of Crossroads Mission Avenue as they provide meals and care for the homeless and needy in Hall County.

Crossroads Mission Avenue has been serving the homeless in South Central Nebraska  for 38 years, with locations in Kearney, Grand Island and Hastings.  Their Grand Island campus currently consists of an emergency shelter and transitional housing serving men in coordination with the State of Nebraska Probation, Drug Court and Parole.  They provide comprehensive care in a nurturing  environment, which includes services such as safe shelter, hot meals, life skills classes, and one on one case management that helps their guests gain employment, financial independence and stable housing.  This equips Crossroads guests for successful living after their time at the shelter and leads to homelessness prevention.  Since opening in Grand Island in late 2018, Crossroads has served almost 500 homeless men in Hall County with over 30,000 nights of stay.

The new Mission Avenue Thrift store offers job training experience for their guests, as well as offering employment and volunteer opportunities for the Grand Island community.  Daniel Buller, Executive Director for Crossroads Mission Avenue, is excited to see the addition of Mission Avenue Thrift in Hall County.  “Crossroads Mission Avenue is serving around 200 homeless men in the Grand Island area annually by providing homeless shelter services. Our services go above and beyond meeting their basic needs. Programming and case management is provided for every one of our guests.  The desired outcome is increased life skills, independence, and to teach each one to walk with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  These programs and facilities come at a cost.  Mission Avenue Thrift is a way for the community to keep their support local and to help supplement the income necessary to provide much needed services to men in Grand Island who would otherwise be living on the streets.”

Crossroads Mission Avenue’s mission is to bring glory to God through the helping of people.  Homelessness recovery is a long, complicated process for many of their guests, and step by step, Crossroads is there to help them in that process.  The new Grand Island Mission Avenue Thrift Store will be a vital addition to their program!
