(Omaha, NE) - It's safe to say the Grand Island Senior High baseball team emptied the tank against Millard West on Wednesday at the Class A state baseball tournament. The Islander bats scorched the Wildcats early in game one of the day leading at one time 7-1, but Millard West clawed back to only be down two runs in the 7th inning. The Islanders were able to hang on to force a winner take all bracket one championship with the winner advancing to Friday's final.

In game two Grand Island would take an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first but Millard West would soon answer in the bottom of the first with a run to tie the game early at 1-1. Millard West would then score another run in the top of the second to take the lead for good at 2-1 and add three more runs later to eventually win the game 5-1 to advance to Friday's championship vs Lincoln East. The Spartans defeated Elkhorn South 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon. Grand Island's high school season ends with a record of 14-11. It will be a quick turnaround now for the Grand Island kids as the American Legion season will start next week. Grand Island Home Federal Seniors will start of the season hosting Hastings Five Points Bank on Tuesday, May 23rd at Ryder Park. The first pitch is set for 7:30 pm.
