GICC Volleyball Wins In Five At Kenesaw

(Kenesaw, NE) - It was a gritty performance on Thursday night by the GICC Crusader volleyball team winning in five sets at Kenesaw vs the Blue Devils. 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10. The first four sets were as close as the final scores indicate as the entire match outside of the fifth set was mostly a see-saw affair. The Crusaders got a great start in the 5th with an 8-3 lead and later had a 10-5 advantage as Kenesaw exhausted their two timeouts early. Ultimately, GICC finished with a five-point set victory to move to 1-0 on the season.

Senior Maggie Herbek led the way for the Crusaders with 14 kills. Junior Abigail Connick chipped in 9 kills, and Junior Grace Johnson had 7 kills. Freshman Ava Waind came off the bench in the 3rd set and played throughout the rest of the match and had 7 kills in key moments during the fourth and fifth sets.

Kenesaw was led by Jorja Uden and Elise Schukei each with 9 kills, and Sophia Schukei with 7 kills.

GICC will be back in action on Tuesday, September 3rd at Blue Hill. Kenesaw will travel to Amherst for a triangular with the Broncos and Arcadia Loup City on Thursday, September 5th.
