GI Home Federal Faces Elimination This Afternoon
(Scottsbluff, NE) - It will be the biggest game of the year between Grand Island Home Federal and Hastings Five Points Bank on Monday afternoon in Scottsbluff with the Class A Area 7 baseball tournament. Each team went 1-1 on Sunday. GI would defeat and eliminate Kearney on Sunday by a final score of 6-4. Grand Island would then fall to North Platte by a final score of 7-6. Hastings would fall to North Platte Sunday afternoon by a final score of 4-0. Hastings would bounce back Sunday night and eliminate Scottsbluff by a final score of 10-1.
Today (Monday, July 22nd) at 2:00 pm CT in Scottsbluff GI and Hastings will play each other for the fourth time with plenty on the line. Grand Island has a 3-0 record vs Hastings this season with the two regular season home and home victories of 8-0 and 9-1. Home Federal would then defeat Hastings on July 10th, 3-2 in 15 innings to claim the Cornhusker League Championship. The team that falls on Monday afternoon will see their season come to an end. The team that wins will advance on to the A7 championship round on Tuesday vs North Platte who is in the driver's seat with whoever wins vs Hastings and Grand Island that team will have to defeat North Platte twice on Tuesday if they want to claim the A7 title. The two teams in the championship round will advance to one of the two-state Class A Nebraska American Legion tournaments.
