Grand Island, Neb. — After dying of natural causes on July 27, 2022, GIPD Officer Chris Marcello will now have his legacy memorialized in our nation’s capital.

Marcello will be inducted into the National Police Officers Memorial during ‘Police Week’ on May 13th in Washington, D.C. He will also be inducted into the Nebraska State Law Enforcement Memorial Wall on May 17th at the Fallen Officers Memorial in Grand Island.

GIPD is now organizing to have five officers ride bicycles with Law Enforcement United from Norfolk, VA into Washington, D.C. for the national event. They’ll also be sending a small group of support officers with Chris’ widow Tami Marcello.

To help fund trips for those officers, GIPD is teaming up with Hall County Crime Stoppers for multiple fundraising efforts in the coming weeks, and the first is in just a few days. For just $100 dollars, you can purchase a singing Valentine’s Day telegram for either a personal or business-oriented valentine. Jimmy Reed with Berkshire Hathaway and Sgt. Steve Sloan with GIPD will be the ‘entertainment’ for the telegrams.

A request form is attached to this release, and if you would like to make a general donation to the cause, both locations of Equitable Bank will have an account set up through Crime Stoppers. Details of future fundraisers will be released once finalized.
