Aurora Girls Earn AG Tourney Title


The Aurora girls captured the championship of the Ashland Greenwood Holiday Tournament.  The Huskies rallied past Roncalli Catholic 55-38 Saturday afternoon. Both teams got off to hot starts, hitting four of their first five shots. The Crimson Pride (6-3) built a nine point lead before settling for a 19-15 lead after a quarter. Trailing 24-19, Aurora (4-6) scored the next 15 points, wrapped around the halftime break and never trailed again.

After giving up 19 in the opening period, the Huskies only allowed 19 the rest of the way. Adi Farnbruch, Kenna Merrihew, and Kendal Wineteer all hit season highs. Farnbruch and Merrihew scored 16. Wineteer put in nine. Denae Nachtigal reached double figures for the eighth time this season with 10 points.

The Aurora boys settled for third place in the event with a 55-39 win over Gross Catholic. The Huskies (5-4) outscored the Cougars (3-7) 20-8 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Ethan Ramaekers tied a season high with 17. Kaiden Wineteer and Booker Sheierman each had 12. Cannon Allen added 10.

Aurora hosts St. Paul on Thursday. Those games will be carried on Country 96. The Huskies visit Schuyler on Friday. Listen for those games on 97.3 the Wolf. Pregame 5:45 each evening.
